NEXT MEETING: ALDERSHOT, MAY 18th, 1pm
SITE ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to a lack of support, this site will cease to be on
15th June, 2008.
May I take this opportunity to thank the few who did support the site,
particularly Julie Gray for the meeting reports. I thought by now that
it would just be a case of transferring information received in emails,
to the site pages, but that isn't the case. It takes a considerable
amount of time and a small amount of money to maintain the site
but as most are not willing to contribute anything to the site, I don't
see why I should bother either.
So despite over 21,000 visits and nearly 39,000 page views
in just over a year, I have reluctantly decided to call it a day.
NIGEL TRENCH
UPDATE
The following update was posted on oval racing
forum, May 8th, by Nigel's daughter, Pippa:
It's Pippa again with another update of how dad's getting
on. Unfortunately it not as good news
as my last post, he has got an infection which has resorted in him needing to
have the tracki put back in
and back on the ventilator but when i saw him yesterday he was wide awake and in
good spirits as he is now
finding it easier to breath so hopefully soon we will have him back off the
ventilator and chatting again
(don't know if the nurse's will feel the same though)
As far as I am aware the following still applies
We (the family) are asking
that only family and close friends to be allowed to visit (the chance for
someone who maybe recovering
from a cold, passing it on to Dad is just too much of a risk right now).
When Dad
is allowed to regain
consciousness, we will (within reason) give him a huge say in who/how
many
visitors he can have...
I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing 'Big
Nige' a full & speedy recovery.

EASTBOURNE, 5th May
Peter Scott (98) secures first win of the season -
Alan Gray (521) wins heat and final.
Meeting Report by Julie Gray
A large crowd, entertained by guest
commentator Paul Huggett watched the
V8 stock cars take to the track for the first race of the afternoon on a
glorious
sunny day in Eastbourne. The track was very dry and dusty as the cars lined
up for their first race in the 3rd round of the Mr Excavator series.
Heat 1
Colin ‘Mr Excavator’ Moss lined up at the front of the grid in a car owned
by Peter Ross which has been used by a few people both last season and
this. The star grade drivers were a little too enthusiastic at the start of the
race and the clerk of the course deemed it to be a false start so the red flags
came out for a complete restart. This time the cars got away with Peter
Gray taking the early lead followed by Colin Moss and Bryan Scott. Alan
Gray was making a charge from the blues followed by Peter Scott from
the star grade. Alan unfortunately had to retire from the race and Peter
Scott lived up to his name of ‘The Flying Scott’ as he was on a mission
around the track and soon had a clear lead followed by the other star
grade drivers. Colin Goodswen, who had made the very long journey
from East Anglia was going really well and came through to take a well
deserved second place followed by Peter Blomfield, Peter Scott jnr,
David Burton, who was playing his joker in this round of the series,
Mark Guinchard, Peter Gray, Colin Moss and Bryan Scott.Malcolm Burton,
Peter Ross, Simon Turner and Brad Moss had all retired from the race.
Heat 2
Colin Goodswen had clutch problems and had to drive round the track
to keep his car going as the cars lined up for Race 2 which was again red
flagged at the start owing to a false start but once the cars got under way
Colin Moss and Peter Gray again led away. Alan Gray soon came through
to take up the lead whilst behind him a battle was going on for second
and third place between Peter Scott and David Burton with Peter Scott jnr
not that far behind. Alan Gray had built up a convincing lead and came
through to take the chequered flag from Peter Scott, David Burton, Peter
Scott jnr., Colin Moss, Peter Gray and Bryan Scott.
Final
Colin Goodswen again had to drive round as the cars lined up for the
final saw Colin Moss and Peter Gray lead the cars away. Peter
unfortunately had to retire from the race with clutch problems.
Alan Gray took the lead followed by Brad Moss, Peter Scott,
David Burton and Peter Blomfield, Colin Goodswen, Simon Turner,
Colin Moss and Bryan Scott. Peter Scott spun on the pit bend and
David Burton and Peter Blomfield had a coming together in the same
place which left Alan Gray leading followed by Brad Moss and
Peter Scott jnr. which was how the final finished.
An entertaining afternoon of racing with excellent commentary
by Paul Huggett.

Nothing to do with Spedeworth V8s but they did generate some
interest
when the pictures first appeared on the site:
Do you remember the old 'Bozzy'
pictures that were on the site?
It turns out that it wasn't 'Bozzy'!

Alan Broughton built this car in late 80's after seeing the original Bozzy.
Garry Broughton raced it, with the number 46. It later raced with the number
252..
The car still sits in Alan Broughton's field in a village called Huttotft, near
Skegness,
It is also believed that it had both V6 & V8 power at some stage.

Thanks to Alan Broughton Jnr for the info

Jaguar Mk2 restoration
As you can see from the picture above, it has been
completely stripped back to
bare metal.
All the running 'gear' (has been/will be) removed
and will be overhauled. A separate page
will be added to the site for those who are interested in seeing the progress of
the project.
Bearing in mind who's doing it, the Jag restoration will probably be part of the
site
for many years to come!
I know it's nothing to do with V8 Stock Cars but I'm sure it will interest some.
Who's doing it?
Terry Harris(33)!
